This shoreline town was just named CT’s best summer destination – CT Insider

When making summer plans, some people dream of visiting tropical, far-away beaches on exotic islands. However, a new list from Travel Pulse, a travel-focused website, shows that vacationers don’t need to travel far in order to make the most out of their summer plans.

In Connecticut, the distinction has been bestowed upon Old Lyme. Contributing to its placement on the list is its access to beaches and state parks as well as its signature holiday events and waterside bars and restaurants.

Essential travel locations in Old Lyme mentioned by Travel Pulse include Rocky Neck and Soundview Beach. Located on the Connecticut Shoreline in New London County, Old Lyme is a historic area of the state with strong ties to its maritime past.

If sitting by the beach isn’t your thing, Old Lyme boasts a strong arts community that is anchored by the Florence Griswold Museum and Lyme Art Association. In terms of live music, Old Lyme has the The Side Door Jazz Club, which has seen a number of jazz greats walk through its doors including Dr. Lonnie Smith, Chico Freeman and Bucky Pizzarelli.

In addition to Old Lyme getting recognition as a top summer travel destination, New London’s Ocean Beach Park was named one of the best beaches in the country by Travel + Leisure this year.

“This half-mile, golden-sand beach with gentle tides provides great views of ferries and schooners sailing past the New London lighthouse,” the article describes.

Other nearby spots to make Travel Pulse’s list include the Finger Lakes in New York, Provincetown in Massachusetts, Long Beach Island in New Jersey and Block Island in Rhode Island.
